News From an Old Friend
BY EDITOR - Just got around to speaking with a good friend of mine - Graduado Queixo. I trained with Quiexo in NY under Mestre Bom Jesus for a number of years, and about a year and half ago he left NY to live in Charleston, South Carolina. Once there he wasted no time in setting up a capoeira class and getting the old capoeira ball rolling there. Well, he just had his first batizado with about 30 odd students and about 450 people turned up to watch!
As guests he invited all his teacher and other advanced practitioners down from New York, Mestre Bom Jesus, Professor Ariranha and Instructor Carioca, who did two days of workshops along with the batizado itself. Queixo told me it all turned out well.
Having known Quiexo for a number of years it's fantastic to see someone with the amount of dedication and love of the capoeira art that he has going to someplace new and set up a class and go. I wasn't able to make it down there this year, well, because I had tickets to Las Vegas. But I'll be visiting Queixo and his class sometime soon for sure (I think I'll wait until spring though...)
